Dakota's appointment

I took Dakota to his appointment on Monday and the doctor spent a lot of time with us. It was nice to have a doctor take their time, ask questions, and listen. As for the bathroom issues, she said that it is possible that Dakota has held his bowel movements in so much that he no longer feels when he needs to go. And his bowels could be pushing against his bladder, and that's why he sometimes wets his pants. She said that we need to try something called bowel retraining. We need to start with giving Dakota Mira-lax or Ex-lax to get him cleaned out. Then we need to have him sit on the toilet every day at the same time to see if he can try to go.

As for the behavioral issues, we don't really know what's going on yet. The doctor mentioned Autism, but that is kind of hard to diagnose and she's not positive at this point. She wants to wait and see how things go with all the testing the school is going to be doing, and how things go with observing him at school. Dakota's teacher FINALLY got a hold of the lady at the doctor's office who is supposed to come and observe him. They sat that up for tomorrow. The doctor also mentioned trying him on some medication to help him with holding his attention on things. That might help him out at school. But she wants to wait until all that testing is over, because she doesn't want the med to interfere with the tests. So, as of right now, the doctor just increased Dakota's dose of Abilify. John picked it up from the pharmacy yesterday, and because of the deductible, we had to pay $150. John had to put all of his birthday money toward that. John's car is also having major problems. We need to take is somewhere to have it looked at, but that has to wait because of buying the medicine. It seems like it is always something...

Dakota lost another tooth last night. I think this makes the 3rd tooth in the past month or so. I joke with him about him turning into a toothless old man. Anyway, the tooth that came out last night had a little bit of blood on it, so he was concerned that he needed to wash it for the tooth fairy. I thought that was very thoughtful of him :)
